I watched the movie The Queen on DVD this evening. I purchased the DVD at Borders Books today. This was my third viewing and I was still impressed by the drama. All of the acting was superb, but the stand out performances were of by Helen Mirren as the title character and Michael Sheen as Tony Blair.
In the 'making of' documentary, Helen Mirren relates that she was more nervous about this role than all her other roles in her career. (Really, more nervous than during her many au natural scenes?) She calmed herself by thinking that she was in a sense a portrait painter, i.e. like a painter, he/she can capture the appearance & some emotion of the subject, but will inevitably add interpretation. The director, Stephen Frears, deserves praise for making an excellent film, but I was dismayed to see how slovenly he appears an interview -- unkempt and unshaven. A modicum of respectable appearance is not too much to expect in my opinion. Still, I highly recommend this disc.
