I watched Miss Austen Regrets on PBS tonight and thought it quite good. Olivia Williams gave a fine performance as the 40 year old Jane Austen. Other fine performances were by Greta Scacchi (my goodness she looks older) as Jane's sister Cassandra, and relative newcomer, Imogen Poots, as Jane's niece Fanny. In this imagined drama, Jane pals and confides with her niece and sister, wistfully talks old times with an old flame, and takes a ton of crap from her mother (played by Phyllida Law) for not marrying, all the while deteriorating with Addison's disease. Jane does make a flirtatious acquaintance with a doctor who says the show's funniest line, "Lizzie Bennett fell in love with Mr. Darcy when she saw how big his house was."
